Death in folk memory
– stories from
the area
The project aims to highlight the cultural history in the Fairy Tale Region (Alvesta, Ljungby, and Älmhult) and its approach to death.
About the project
By bringing forth old stories, objects, and places, new ways are created to talk about life's big questions and understand how death was handled in the past. The project combines traditional oral storytelling with digital tools, including an interactive map in an app, podcast episodes, and a traveling exhibition. The focus is on creating meetings across generational and cultural boundaries, strengthening local identity, and contributing to social and cultural sustainability. An international collaboration with the Swedish Ostrobothnia Association for Education and Culture (SöFuk) in Finland gives the project an extra dimension.

The board's motivation
The project strengthens social and cultural sustainability by highlighting the local cultural heritage, spreading oral tradition, and making historical objects and places visible. It is well anchored in the Fairy Tale Region and is based on collaboration between several actors, including an international partner. The project is innovative by combining traditional storytelling with digital solutions and a theme that is often taboo. It is assessed to have good implementation capacity and a clear plan that connects to Leader Linné Småland's strategy.
