Expedition Cultural Heritage

Do you want to highlight your local stories and make the cultural heritage a living resource? Expedition Cultural Heritage provides you with practical support, new perspectives, and opportunities to develop the community together.

Are you proud of your region – and curious to highlight its stories, traditions, and places?

Through Expedition Cultural Heritage you will receive practical support to develop your cultural heritage, document local stories, and attract more visitors. You will also participate in study trips and workshops where communities inspire each other and share experiences.

The initiative is driven by Leader Linné, the Adult Education Association Kronoberg, and Coompanion Kronoberg, in collaboration with Destination Småland, Kronoberg County's Local Heritage Association, Handicrafts Kronoberg, and Kronoberg's community center district. We provide you with the tools to both preserve and renew the cultural heritage – so that it can grow into new ideas, activities, and collaborations that strengthen the community and togetherness.

Together we make history a resource for the future!

Who can participate?

Associations, individuals, or entrepreneurs who in some way want to develop or preserve a cultural heritage in Alvesta, Växjö, Älmhult, Ljungby, Markaryd, Värnamo, and Sävsjö municipalities.

Expedition Cultural Heritage is a local initiative where three different projects, sharing the purpose of preserving cultural heritage in Småland, collaborate. The projects themselves are run individually by Leader Linné Småland (Cultural Villages), the Adult Education Association Kronoberg (The Local Cultural Gold), and Coompanion Kronoberg (Cultural Heritage Power). All three are co-financed by the European organization. You can read more and sign up for the individual projects below.

Activities

Cultural Heritage Competition and Vernissage

In the spring of 2025, the project announced a competition - The Hunt for Local Cultural Treasures. Everyone in the leader area could submit contributions with their local cultural heritage. A total of 29 contributions were received, and a jury selected 10 winners, who were immortalized with a painting and celebrated at a vernissage during Rural Week on May 8th.

Activities

Study trip to Finland

In September 2025, the project visited Leader Pohjois-Satakunta together with our other partners from Latvia. The trip went through Ikaalinen, Jämijärvi, Parkano, Karvia, and Kauhajoki. We saw how Finland works with its cultural heritage by learning about national costumes and accordion music, visiting farm shops and cultural houses, experiencing beautiful nature in a GEO-park and scrap art in a sculpture park, as well as taking a course in cheese making.

Activities

Workshop with the Adult Education Association

In August 2025, a kickoff meeting was held at the Adult Education Association in Alvesta for individuals interested in developing their cultural heritage. Participants included Wieselgrensgården, Ryssby Local Heritage Association, Småland's Linen Center, and several individuals. The evening included presentations of everyone's ”cultural gold,” brainstorming about collaborations, and feedback dialogue.

Activities

Village Safari 1 – Sävsjö

On April 25, we conducted our village safari with study visits to local cultural heritage actors in Sävsjö municipality. The day followed a packed schedule, with engaging meetings, good food, and many rewarding conversations. A total of over 24 people participated, with many from the local heritage movement, Småland tourism, and civil society. A big thank you to everyone who was involved and contributed to a successful day!
